PSALM 131
Like a weaned
child
|
1 O Yahweh, my heart is not
proud, |
nor my eyes
haughty; |
|
||
|
Nor do I involve
myself in great matters, |
Or in things too
difficult for me. |
|
||
|
2 Surely I have composed and
quieted my soul; |
Like a weaned child
rests against his mother, |
My soul is
like a weaned child within me. |
||
|
3 O Israel, hope in
Yahweh (Psalm 130:7) |
From this time forth and forever. (Psalm
121:8; 125:2) [1] [2] |

It seems that
Psalm 131-132 fit in well with the Songs of Ascent and the tradition that
this collection was sung by pilgrims going to Jerusalem. 2 Samuel 6 is about the ascent of the Ark
of the Covenant to Mount Zion. David
was not afraid to humble himself before God even though he was king. In 2 Samuel 7, God makes a covenant
with David and this is the background
for Psalm 132. |
